1953 Buick Skylark Convertible 322

The Buick Roadmaster Skylark was introduced to commemorate Buick’s 50th anniversary. It was released as one of three specialty convertibles produced by GM. All three were limited-production promoting GM’s design leadership. Of the three, the Skylark was the most popular with a production of 1,690 units.

The car featured a V8 engine and a 12-volt electrical system – two ‘firsts’ for Buick. The top and seating of the car were lowered a few inches below the Roadmaster and Super convertibles. This was achieved by cutting the windshield almost three inches shorter and lowering the side windows and convertible top frame. To prevent operators from bumping their heads, seats and steering columns were lowered to accommodate.

Buick’s definition of the car: “The namesake of a special, limited-production sport convertible built as part of the division’s Golden Anniversary celebration.”

This Skylark was a very solid car that benefited from a full professional restoration a in 2004. The car is believed to have only 49839 miles and was a very original Skylark prior to the restoration. The car had all suspension rebuilt and chassis painted. The engine and transmission was rebuilt. The car had all chrome replated. Wire wheels have been re chromed and look beautiful. This is a very well sorted car with all hydraulics working including convertible and all windows. The radio plays. All dash lights and courtesy lights are working. The interior is the correct genuine leather and has a great leather smell. The engine is very smooth and transmission shifts well. This Skylark runs so well, you will find yourself wanting to drive it often. This car is categorized as a great older restoration that still presents very well. The car was shown at the Cranbrook Concourse De Elegance in 2005.

Mechanically, this is the best running and driving Skylarks that we have ever driven. This car is so reliable, it could be driven daily. The previous owner meticulously maintained the Skylark. We are pleased to say that the car runs and drives extremely well. The car stops smooth and straight. The power options are working well including all the power windows, power convertible top, original radio, lights, gauges, power seat and the heater.
