In need of a fully restored tow truck to service your collection when one item breaks down? Why not complement your classic cars with a classic tow truck, this 1980 GMC 3500 one-ton model dually (code RO5) with a Holmes 480 dual line Tow Equipment, available now at MotoeXotica Classic Cars. This awesome GMC underwent a vigorous restoration and was held in a prominent collection since 2006!

Made in GM’s Pontiac, Michigan factory, this cab and chassis two-wheel drive model (VIN code C) is finished in a dark red with red steel wheels and rides on a 117.5-inch wheelbase. The paint and trim on this truck is in overall very good order, as is the finish on the Holmes equipment in back.

The bodywork is straight and solid, the engine bay is very tidy, the red front overrider/push bumper looks great and the battery looks good. The Holmes 480 equipment – tow hook, cables, winches, and other pieces are in similar great condition and ready for work.

This GMC truck rolls on Courser Radial AWT tires in front, size LT235/85R16 and on Power King LT235/85R16 duallys in back. Each tire is mounted on a red, steel and vented wheel. The tires are in good order while the wheels are in very good condition.

In the engine bay is a 454 CID V-8 engine and backing it is a Muncie SM465 four-speed manual transmission. First gear is an extremely low one, ideal for getting underway with a vehicle to tow. Gear ratios are: 1st – 6.55:1; 2nd – 3.58:1; 3rd – 1.70:1 and 4th – 1.00:1 with Reverse at 6.09:1. Driver convenience features include air-conditioning (code C60) which is inoperable as the compressor is not enguaging, power steering, power brakes with discs in front, cruise control (code K30), power window and power locks (code ZQ2) and tilt steering column.

Inside, the truck’s black vinyl bucket seats are in great shape, with a large center console and Chelsea tow controls separating them. The black carpet is in good, original order while the matching headliner is in similar condition to the seats. A two-spoke steering wheel faces the driver while the inner door liners are in good, original shape. The black instrument panel boats both the optional tachometer (code U16) and an AM/FM radio (code U69).

Competition to this GMC in 1980 included Chevrolet’s C30, Dodge’s D-300 and Ford’s F-350 one-ton trucks.

If you have a collection of eccentric vehicles, this would fit in nicely. If you need an actual tow truck on stand-by in case any of your Sunday Drivers goes AWOL or you simply want to put this one into service, you should really check out this 1980 GMC one-ton tow truck at MotoeXotica Classic Cars today!
